Mission Statement
PEETO aims to "provide students with a stimulating environment within which they may identify, explore and develop learning pathways, which will assist them in realising their full potential whilst recognising and being sensitive to the personal and cultural needs of each studentâ€."
Goals for 2009
PEETO is committed to ensuring its goals and objectives are in line with the educational aspirations of Pacific, Refugee and Migrant people's, and meets all its external funding agencies performance targets. Key goals for 2009 are:
- To gain and maintain a quality reputation with students, employers, the ESOL fraternity and others in our field, as an educational and training institute and international English language teaching school which delivers courses in English for Speakers of Other Languages, Computing, Orientation and work based training.
- To develop a PEETO culture sensitive to the varying needs of individuals and groups. This includes an appropriate and physically safe learning and social environment, showing respect to and awareness of differing ethnic, cultural, linguistic, social and religious backgrounds.
- To meet educational and funding requirements of contractual bodies and statutory agencies.
- To support staff and students to gain an appreciation of and to adhere to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
- To promote services offered to our identified client group; locally, nationally and internationally.
- To foster a culture of meaningful engagement with all key stakeholders.
- To provide focused support and guidance for individual needs of any people seeking our services.
- To offer our facilities and/or services to communities specific to PEETO’s client groups, for their development.
- To promote understanding of issues related to migrants and refugees, particularly language and employment needs.
- To offer appropriate training services in response to the projected rise in unemployment in New Zealand in 2009-10 and to research and design such interventions that are compatible with central and local Government imperatives and the practical and relevant needs of clients.
- To strengthen and expand our overall service and consider diversification into related projects.
